This Data set deals with Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the Sultanate - according to the different commodity categories - and Producer Price Index (PPI) according to the various economic activities.
Laspeyres’ Index, i.e. the aggregate price index weighted by the base year quantities, was used to calculate both CPI and PPI in the Sultanate.
The base year of CPI was updated to be 2012 instead of 2000 previously approved while the base year of PPI is 2007.
The prices of goods and services for CPI are collected on a monthly basis through field visits to a sample of commercial enterprises and leased units. This price collection process covered 1,721 enterprises and 1,150 leased units from all governorates of the Sultanate with the exception of Musandam, Al Wusta, and Al Batinah South. As for PPI, the prices - related to three productive sectors: manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and electricity and water- are collected on quarterly basis using a selected sample of the various governorates.
